How can they sell rebreathers, drysuits or any equipment for that matter without checking your training? What happens when someone gets hurt or dies.

What's wrong with personally responsibility? Why insist on a nanny-state that controls what its population can do.
If someone wants to go out and hurt themselves that's their decision not that of a babysitter.

...I love to move quickly and do need them for when I goof off as I dive...

To quote Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride...

"You keep using that word...I do not think it means what you think it means."

YouTube - You keep using that word.

I love all 5 LDS in my area. I have purchased online because I got gift certs from friends who didn't know better($50). Internet sales are about $$$. How can they sell rebreathers, drysuits or any equipment for that matter without checking your training? What happens when someone gets hurt or dies. I hope a USB cable can fix that situation.

The shop that insists on checking my training before they sell me gear is not getting any of my $$$. I wonder if they can find buyers as easily as I can find sellers. Welcome to scubaboard and the 21st century.

And you're not a widely-known pro BMX racer because...?

:D

I'm thinking we can move this thread to "Incidents and Accidents" now...

Actually I did alright.. Most of my friends went on to be top in the sport but the $ was not there..
After BMX I got into Computers..
I have placed in National Competition for custom rigs and have placed and been seeded in the past as a Pro Gamer.. Making decent $.

We all have a past. Some of us enjoy it. I still race BMX and competitively play online games *Counter Strike*.. I however do not want a steel tank. As for idiotic Inet fills of air.. geesh.. If I really was that avid of a diver, a $2000 system to fill my own would not be out of the question.. You all act as if air costs an arm and a leg. Its cheap to get fills and if you are that serious about diving daily, buy your own compressor and be done with it. .(yes I know its a differenet compressor than what you get at Sears..)

Some of you sound like the kids I grew up with that talked about modding cars but never did because the costs were so high..
When I got into car modding I had no idea how broke they all were.. A $500 carb was just the cost of one of my wheels from my bike.. or my frame.. I didnt understand why they thought it was expensive.

When I modified my daily driver back in the day, steel was used for suspension upgrades (specifically Chromoly). Every metal has its place.. Here it seems some of you are union steel workers or something.

You all must also have some adversion to 10lbs of weight.. because adding just that much freak you all out like nothing else.

I love the personal attacks and as stated before have 0 issue with them.. keep them up. You just show the world how childish you really are. I know Im laughing..

Ill keep reading the threads as I have found a few good ones here... sadly, for the size of this message board, there is not as much good content..

As for goofing off, to me, it means I get to do flips, swim upside down, and generally act like I am flying around because heck, thats just plain fun.

Most shops will sell you just about any gear that you want without checking certs. They just shouldn't fill your tanks without proper certification.

I guess you won't drink at a bar because they card you AWAP. I do not have to show C-cards to those who know me but when I go away and they ask I am very happy to show my divemaster or nitrox card just as my friends filling heliox. There is pride in the training. You have hundreds of dives but what about the kid who has just completed his open water and thinks he can dive decompression? Shouldn't the industry protect these people or other thrill seeking weirdos who give the industry and sport a bad name STING? This will make insurance, equipment and training costs go up in the long run LDS or online.

Psychocabbage, people have different notions of what is expensive so you should be more considerate of that.

For someone who states they don't care about other people's opinions you spend an awful lot of time on these forums defending your point of view from their opinions. If you don't care then stop posting please, I am getting tired of it.

To be honest, I think you have a terrible attitude towards diving (I mean, you are prepared to pull a knife out on an OOA diver for starters) but I will never dive with you so that doesn't bother me. I hope you do only stick to diving with your wife as it sounds like you will take care of her at least and vice versa.

But in regards to steel v aluminium, you are right, you can pick what you like but the shop is not required to sell it to you if they think it is a bad/stupid idea. I run my own business and I try to advise people on what is right for them, not what they want, though usually most people are sensible enough that they are the same thing. :) The customer is not always right you know! I have avoided customers who have no idea what they are on about and ask for ridiculous things and I still make more than enough money to get by in life. Anyway, so yes, if you are so insistent on aluminium get it from another shop but don't slag off the other LDS who was just trying to do you a favour. Your wife should not have bought a steel tank given how much you don't want one - but she's an adult and should be able to stick up for herself in a shop that is pushing her to buy something other than what she wants! I HATE when people blame others for their own decisions.

Oh yeah... I'm cheap...

Sorry.. had to show off my toy.....

The people in the shop are (were) his friends.

Quote: "I would venture to say friendly enough to go out to eat and hang out at their home.
I dont think they have a clue and we are leaning towards just pulling our kids out of their classes."

I really think they gave good friendly advise. I think Psycho just has his principles, although IMHO, cutting off his nose to spite his face. Advise has been given, considered and declined.
