Not a problem xariatay. It's my pleasure to share it with everyone.

Anyways folks, forgive me for barging in like this but I do feel that I need to share my side of the story when it comes to all the negativity about Layang Layang. I'm not taking any sides here but I do feel everyone has their right to share their point of view when it comes to their experience in Layang Layang.

This is my second trip there, and I went only for the Scalloped Hammerheads! My last trip was on August 2008 (7nights) and it was definitely not a season for them hammies but I got myself done with them small stuffs and the occasional friendly mantas.

Being adamant about seeing them hammies, I decided to go for 13nights, there were quite alot of people whom was not happy with alot of things whilst I was there. Some were complaining about the rusty water, some were complaining about 10divers/boat/DM, some were even complaining it was not luxurious enough! And headed out to a backpackers dive shop elsewhere for their following diving trip. Alright so what is your expectations then? I don't think it has anything to do with high expectations here!

Has it ever occured to you, that you could probably throw-in more money and demand more out of them? I don't know if they would ever accomodate that sorta special treatment cause if they did, I would have done that.

We're talking about a remote resort, the only resort which is partially-owned by the government and only operates from March-August in the Spratly Islands. And carries out maintenance from September-February. Yes they might have got carried away with the peak season charges with them hammy highlights. I felt bad for those 3 Russians that was there for 8nights and did not see any hammerheads during their whole stay but they still had a smile on their face!

As for the price, yes it is expensive. But you might want to consider Galapagos Islands in Ecuador or the Cocos Island in Costa Rica for the schooling hammerheads. I'm sure the DM's there would page them hammerheads for you to have a guaranteed sightings too.

As for me, I only saw my first single hammerhead shadow on my 7night. And on the 9night, the miracle happened and I was ready to pack my gears although there was 4more nights to burn.

So, one of the DM's switched on the turbo fins and went on super fast with no keen interest of showing any stuffs. Did you brought the issue up to the DM or the dive manager? I did and I got myself into another boat.

As for the resort manager, there's nothing wrong with him. He's a great guy that's being wrongly perceived!

My overall experience was awesome except for the fact of putting-up with some whinging guests for 13nights!

poshkin-trim - kulen is that you!! it's me susan. i was with melissa. we saw the same school on may 3rd!! love the video. melissa was kind enough to give me your video...i would say its the best video our boat got of the hammers.

i was super happy with the trip - as for the resort manager, i think we will keep that conversation off line but he could have been a little more warmer to all guests generally.

it seems like generally the happiness of guests is highly correlated with the number of hammers they see in the trip - i enjoyed the reef as much as the morning dives but i know not everyone does.

when are you posting the picture of the pygmy sea horse for everyone to drool over?!

PM me, would love to get in touch with you!

Guess it's time for my feedback. Was there from May 07 - 15. I went to Layang2 for one main reason and that was to see the Hammers. On the fifth day of diving the group saw a school and I saw 2-3. The next day I saw one more big guy. Unfortunately I never saw any schools, but for me the trip was a success. If your not hangin in the deep blue your reef diving. The reef itself wasn't very impressive. Would rate it a 6-7. Our DM was a little green and a bit conservative for my tastes. SHe meant well, but a bit shy below and above water. Actually it took a push or two from me to get her to concentrate on the reason we all were there and that was to see the Hammers. I understand the word liability but for those comfortable with diving deep and with the air consumption to cover it we should be allowed to do so. I found the hotel staff to be ok, the food staff to be very good and the food to be terrible. Of course if I saw scholling Hammers I could care less about everything else. Would I go back; probably not. Think my next Hammer hunt will be South America way. Hope this helps those contemplating going.
