'Morning folks -

We'll be getting off a liveaboard in Bitung (Lembeh) mid-morning in October, but not flying out until the following day, so we have the afternoon and evening to spend somewhere. Does anyone have a suggestion for a decent but reasonable hotel in Manado for that last night? One of our party flies out early in the morning, so we need a place that has a dependable early shuttle, or can have a taxi there. And if you're really familiar with Manado, how about a restaurant for some good food? Nothing fancy, just good Indonesian food.

Thanks!

ry the Celebes - the top rooms have beautiful views of the port are very spatious, quite clean and should cost somewhere around $35? dollars. You can eat on the roof top terrace ;-) Have fun!

Another early riser, huh? Thanks for the suggestion!

nope - this is a very rare occasion. gotta run, drop me a PM & I can send you contact info for the celebs later in the day - otherwise you should be able to find it on the Lonely planet site.

Have a good day - I'm off to monterey :D!

Lots of new hotels in Manado that might be worth trying, and some of the older ones are offering very competitive prices. My favourite still is Ritzy Hotel, not only because it has the best location. And the excellent Raja Sate restaurant isn't far...

You may want to spend the last night in the local national park and you can do jungle walks in Tangkoko National Park which has the tiny tarsier monkey and lots of birds. It is just outside of Bitung and you can either stay at hotel in the park or with families just outside the park entrance at what are called Homestays. Your dive operator can assist you with accommodation and transport. I have only been to the homestay just outside the entrance to the park. We went to pick up a diver who was there and she enjoyed very much staying with a local family.

Thanks for the info re: Ritzy ... I had looked at it, but it's good to hear a first-hand review. I like your suggestion about Tangkoko, but our early departure person takes off at 6-something AM. I'm thinking it might be better to be in town that morning, no?
