I'm planning on starting a family soon and am trying to figure out where to go for my last big dive trip (for a while). I'm mostly interested in pelagics and good visibility (no muck, no wrecks, no caves). I have just over 60 dives under my belt (Philippines, Thailand, East Timor, Zanzibar, Florida), my AOW, and Nitrox cert. I'm travelling from east coast USA, but have about 13 days at my disposal (could maybe extend 1-2 days if necessary). My budget is pretty generous so I'm considering the following:
  • Galapagos (including Darwin & Wolf)
  • Socorro, Mexico
  • Tubbataha
  • Great Barrier Reef
Am I missing anything? Where should I go for my last hurrah?

For Pelagics, Soccoro is hard to beat. Having said that I haven't been to Galapagos. But Socorro is one of the best live aboard trips I have had. Look into the Nautilus Belle Amie, an excellent boat and crew. Tubbataha has nice reefs but not nearly as many Pelagics. Another possible option may be Maldives. But Socorro is much easier to reach for you and will not disappoint.

If money is no object, Socorro has the big stuff. The marine park fees have doubled again to about $1170 for a 6-day dive trip.

The GBR is still suffering from massive bleaching, but you could go to Western Australia to Ningaloo, but you won't get big pelagic animals except whale sharks during their season.
