Just got back from two weeks in Roatan (Dec. 1- 15). We lucked in to 2 weeks of excellent weather. Las Rochas has 6 cabanas, a very good restaurant and a dive shop just steps from your door!
The staff are very personable and breakfast is served in your cabana every morning at 8:00 a.m. (continental type).
Las Rochas is located at the end of West End Beach (closest to West End) and is a half hour beach walk to town (but beware of a beach bandito who struck 3 times while we were there...carries a knife and cut one of the victims in the hand).
There are many private homes and small resorts in West End Beach where you can walk to and the beautiful beach at the far end (cruise ship guests come there once a week so it can be crowded that day...but usually not a lot of people except in front of the Italian resort called Henry Morgans).
Good places to eat in town include Half Moon Bay and the Argentine Grill. If you rent a vehicle its worth the drive to Gio's at French Harbour!
We made 15 dives and saw sea turtles, lobster, crab, spotted rays, garden eels, etc....but not as many large fish as we encountered on our first trip to Roatan in 1995. The development (sewage and pollution) is taking its toll on the reef...hopefully the new sewage plant being built by the airport will lesson the effect...and more money going back to Roatan from the Honduran government is needed to preserve the island!
