I'm trying to put together a Christmas wish list, and one of the things I've been looking for a while is a cooling pad for my laptop. Seems to be a lot of different options out there, and not too many helpful reviews. Here's what I know:

I have a 15.4 Widescreen Dell Latitude D820 laptop. Put out quite a bit of heat. I want something that makes the laptop bearable to use for more than 15 minutes. On a desk, it's fine, but in a recliner, bed, toilet, etc. it sucks. I know I don't need a card reader or a USB hub built in. I know for certain that I don't want to plug it into the wall.

Here's a couple I've seen:

I'd appreciate any help. Maybe there are others types, brands, I haven't seen. Thanks in advance for the help.

Tim

Are you really looking to cool it, or just not fry your skin? Those things look like they're meant to sit on a desk, don't think they would be very comfortable on your lap.

Generic lapdesks work well at protecting you from the heat and I think they're a more comfortable way to use a laptop than just having it on your lap. The kind that are a flat surface with a beanbag sort of cushion on the bottom. Also provides a place to use a mouse if you prefer.

I also prop the back of my laptop up on a block I made by glueing a stack of old mousepad chunks together - rubber out on both sides so it doesn't slip. Makes the angle better and helps it cool some. I think it works better than any of the commercial gizmos I've seen.

Cooling? Not a fan. Its best to have good air flow, and not burn your crotch.

This is what we all use.

I stole my wife's cooling tray for cookies/bread. Its the size of a small cookie sheet but is made out of a wire mesh. Keeps the laptop off the lap and lets a little air get everywhere. Ken :42:

Please tell me you're kidding. If not, it'll make the cell phone thread look tame by comparison :11:

There are some places where technology simply needs to stay out.

It takes 15 minutes to become unbearable. :11:

Was wondering if someone would catch it. Put it in there for humor's sake. :D
