I live in Sydney and love liveaboards but can combine land and sea as it seems impossible to book liveaboard for those dates. Fiji, Australia, Indonesia, Pacific Islands... Any recommedations for where to go and not extremely pricey? I am a bit lost to where to go...
Have you tried Bali, cheap to go there and live and diving is great. We have been there with "Joes Gone DIving" and they are great. The best diving is off to the east side of bali from Sanur. The norht part of Bali is ok but black sand and more desolate. East side out to the Islands is better reef and manta bay is a great site. Crystal bay is also beautiful and has mola mola but you MUST listen to the guides as it can be dangerous with strong down currents. As long as you stag with the guide you are ok, if you go off and over the edge of the wall there may be strong down currents. We are going back this xmas for 2 weeks. Ok after saying that I realise you want live aboards, damn!
Ok what about PNG there are some great liveaboards there at Milne Bay. Perhaps Walindi as we just came back from there, great diving and I believe they have a liveaboard there too.
The GBR liveaboard north of Port Douglas is expensive but supposed to be very good. Out of Cairns to the normal outer reefs I wouldnt recommend.
You can also look at sites Dive the World, Dive Adventures, Always Diving. All good sites to see what packages are available, we usually try a couple of their packages per year.
The big issue you will find is this is peak time for the airlines.Auckland to nigh on any pacific destination was just stupid money.
Have you looked more locally?Im told the diving out of the gold coast is actually pretty darn good.
If you can't do a liveaboard I can personally recommend the crew at Subsurface Fiji who run two tank dives and are based at Musket cove resort as well as most other resorts in the area.
