I was there about two Sundays ago around 2:30 - 3:00 in the afternoon. Not many people where there at that time, so the visability was pretty good. The water temperature was in the low 70s until you hit the thermocline at about 40', then the temperature dropped to the low 60s. I was in a 3ml and was fairly confortable until we hit about 50'. I don't know if the temperature has dropped much since then. I am heading back down there this weekend and will let you know.

I will be there this weekend doing the dives for my OW cert. I have a Cobra so I'll know the temp at surface and at depth.

Cool then you will be ready for some real dives.

Well some real shallow dives! ;) :D I want to go deeper than I've been 45 FSW in warm water but I dont want to go to deep to fast especially in cold water around here.

What you got for newbies?

My wife and I dove at Rawlings this past weekend and enjoyed it very much, below are my very newbie and non-precise opinions. Hope this helps.

Visability: VERY good on Saturday, not sure what that equals to in feet, but water was quite clear and we were pleasantly surprised. On Sunday visibility was drastically worse. Seemed like you were swimming through a silty haze most of the time. It was quite crowded with the DUI Demo going on but if you plan to take any pictures do it on Saturday.

Temperature: We seemed to hit a Thermocline around 42-44 feet and according to my Gekko and SPG temp guage the water temp was around 66 degrees. Above that the temps were in the low to mid 70's. Most of our diving was in 40 ft or less and I was completely comfortable in my 3/2mm wetsuit without hood and gloves. My wife wore a 7/5mm wetsuit and was also fine.

I was also there this weekend.

Dove a Mares Isotherm 6.5 mm Semi-Dry and was plenty warm. No hood or gloves.

Thermocline was at about 40' and I saw 63 degrees under it. Above it was 73 degrees.

Agree with the visibility report. Beautiful on Saturday but silty in some spots on Sunday. We did find some really clear water on Sunday but you had to get way away from the platforms and shore area.

Lake Rawlings is not what I would consider cold....yet. Saw some guy swimming there on Sunday in just a swimsuit and he looked to be having a good time... The air temp was in the high 80's by the end of the days and quite comfortable.
