Hi All:

Bobby (RAD Diver) and I are planning a Lake Rawlings trip the weekend after Thanksgiving, November 23 through 25, 2007. I'll be getting there Friday night and setting up camp along with diving on Saturday and Sunday. I have some new equipment to check out, including a new set of doubles and an underwater video system. The guys from Outer Banks Dive Center (in Nagshead, NC) will also be there doing OW cert dives. I'm sure a GOOD time will be had by all!

For those of you who are "new" divers or haven't done a night dive yet, I'll be glad to "buddy up" with you during this weekend so you can get more experience. I'll also bring a few wreck reels along to try, something you will need to know how to work if you plan on doing offshore diving in our area. I'll probably be bringing my 15 year old niece along as well, so some kids will be there too.

This time of year at Rawlings means the water is getting COLDER. Bottom temps will probably be in the mid 50s, meaning 7mm, full hood and gloves. You can tent or RV camp at Rawlings, but if you sleep in a tent I'd suggest using a "20 Degree rated sleeping bag" along with appropriate fleece and/or other artificial fiber clothing. WET and COLD at Rawlings is NO fun! The area is pretty remote, so bring a cooler, food and drinks to avoid a 30+ minute drive for supplies other than what the local gas station store has.

If you want to come, reply to this thread, PM me or show up! I drive a silver Subaru Outback with a roof rack and will probably be the only diver at the lake wearing an ORANGE Viking drysuit. I camp with a large blue Eureka tent.

See ya SOON!

Andy

I was just there this past weekend. IT was a great time! I will be getting deviated - septum surgery the weekend before that so I will unfortunately be unable to see all of you up there.

Man does that mean I'm diving solo, oh no never done that before:rofl3:. Hope the scuba police don't read this & if they do :mooner:.
Hey Andy are you just bringing the doubles? I will bring both sets as I'm still trying to get the weighting on those alum doubles with my drysuit. I might also be bringing my steel singles just so I don't have to worry about air fills or in case anyone who shows up wants to try steel instead of alum to see the weighting difference.
Should be a blast.

I just got back about an hour ago from a day trip to Rawlings. Vis was great. Water temp was 69 degrees.
Have to pass on the weekend after Thanksgiving. Wish I could but hunting season opens and I promised the kids Id take them out.

HUH?

Well, I didn't want to volunteer you for anything bro...:D I figure if we get more people around here actually diving, we won't have so many cancelled charters! :shakehead:

Call you tomorrow!

I'd love to with you guys, but I'll be in Michigan. I'm going with an AOW class for night, nav and search and recovery this weekend to Rawlings. Gonna be chilly this weekend. 36degrees Saturday night (during our night dive:coffee:) It's great y'all are so willing to help us others get into diving. Thanks!

Hey Drew, I may end up going just to confuse people and show up in a Viking too. Tried to get some folks into Rawlings on 02 Nov, should have sent a message on SB.

I may have to join ya'll there.

Have to secure some gloves first though.

No hood though. I hate wearing hoods underwater.

No Hood, you must be part Nordic. Maybe you need to try some different ones to see if 1 feels better than the other. I have 3 different ones, my Mares for my semi-dry, my DUI for my drysuit & I have 1 that I bought at 1st that I have worn once.
Anything below 70 & I wear a hood.
Would love to see you there tho.

Hey BVM:

Rad's right, it's just a matter of getting the right hood. If you have been wearing rental hoods, this might be part of the problem...
