My buddy and I are thinking of making a trip to Lake Michigan, could anyone on this sub-forum give us a list of good shore dives? We are planning to make a couple of boat dives, but would like something to supplement these dives.
Also, what kind of temps can we expect for mid-August in the 60-100 ft. range? Thanks for all replies!
Edit: we are looking at maybe being North of Chicago by a bit. But of course all responses for good sites are welcome!!

Hey, if you feel like travelling to Milwaukee you can dive the world's largest wooden shipwreck. It's the Appomattox, and it's located about 100 yards off shore from Atwater Beach in about 25 feet of water. I've been there a few times and it's a fun dive. It's about 320 feet long and is pretty flat as it sank in 1902, but the wooden beams of the hull are still mostly intact and MASSIVE! Cool thing to see. It was a coal and Iron Ore steamer, and I've found a few lumps of coal around the site. The 12 foot brass propeller is also within the wreck's debris field but I have yet to find it.

not sure about the worlds largest? but tell them about the few hundred steps down to the beach level, then several hundred feet to the waters edge and several hundred yards out to the wreck site,, I would say a shore dive for a fit person, a boat dive more or less.
water in the great lakes can change daily as with the vis,the winds play a major role. but temps can be from 39 deg F to mid 40's in your range
Door county Wisc offers a few fun shore dives.
