Kay and I went on a great dive trip to Lake Erie the first weekend of June. We dove with Osprey Dive Charters and they are top notch. We did 4 wrecks over the weekend and vis was between 40 to 130 feet, water temp on bottom averaged 44, and yes we dove wet.
First Dive
Dean Richmond
Lost Sunday October 13, 1893
Depth 110 feet
Dimentions 238' x 35' x 13.5'
the wreck lies upside down with only one of the 2 massive propellors left it was a great dive, the hull is breached on both sides but should only be entered by experienced divers with proper training
Second Dive
Indiana
Lost Saturday September 24, 1870
Depth 90 feet
Dementions 136' x 25' x 11'
This wreck was my favorite of the trip it is a old 3 masted schooner still intact covered with zebra muscles but so cool to see this old vessel lying on the bottom. I was able to do a short penetration as some of the deck has colapsed from the stone cargo. the ship still has the belaying pins in there holders just a realy cool dive.
Dive three
John J Boland Jr.
Lost Wednesday October 5, 1932
Depth 135 feet
Dementions 252' x 44' x 18'
This wreck was really cool also the propellor was so large I had to swim about 20 feet off the wreck to get a pic of the whole prop. I was able to see about half of this old canaler with vis in the 75 foot range and the dive was awesome and I did a short penetration here as well.
Dive four
Betty Hedger
Lost Tuesday November 2, 1937
Depth 115 feet
Dementions 113' x 30' x 13'
This wreck had the greatest vis of the trip and was a tad bit colder water was 38 here but vis was about 130 feet. The down line was on a concrete slab 15 feet off the stern of the wreck and when I was at the bow I could still see the strobe on the down line. Just a awesome awesome dive trip.
