Hey all, i am doing a presentation on diving Texas lakes, and was wondering if you all have any advice or tricks you have learned over the years of diving that you would like to share.

Thanks in advance!

When and where are you putting on the presentation? Is it open to all divers?

sounds interesting...hoping to visit TX one day... I'd love to get some good diving done...

CCTX: if you want to come and hang, i don't think that would be a big deal, but it's not a large presentation and I don't think the drive would be worth it.

It's in preparation for an ITC that i am taking in May, i'm doing it in front of University Scuba's Master Diver class this Wednesday in Arlington. It'll be short, only 15 minutes, but i would be glad to email anybody the powerpoint of it. It'll be on diving lakes, with emphasis on lakes in Texas and what there is to see in them, and techniques for diving low visibility boater infested waters.

That is ok... was just wondering a little about it. That is what I figured you were going to do. Good luck on it. If you need any info on diving in Corpus Christi send me a PM.

Hmmm. Well, one of my favorite tactics to prepare for diving in Texas lakes is to bundle myself in a parka and hood, seal myself into an unlit refrigerator trailer with only an underpowered flashlight, spin around a few times and then try to find the doorknob to get out.

Seriously, though, I would think some of the challenges to diving Texas lakes might emphasize topics such as 1)enhanced buddy skills that many find challenging due to the often limited visibility 2)hightened navigation skills so that divers can return to the boat or point of entry 3)a more acute awareness of hazards such as submerged trees, brush, and monofilament fishing line and 4)choosing dive sites carefully to minimize encounters with boaters and personal watercraft, since Texas boaters tend to either be totally clueless concerning the meaning of a dive flag or choose to ignore it altogether.
As for what there is to see, that varies with location, of course, but I can report that I actually enjoy looking for and recovering "treasures" lost by boaters and those who fish (sunglasses, anchors, rods and reels, etc...) in some areas, and I simply have a good time spotting the aquatic wildlife in others. It's all good!

Good luck with your presentation.

Diver Down Flag.

Although you're probably not looking to encourage solo diving, I think some emphasis on self sufficiency, appropriate redundancy and dive planning might be good to deal with the inevitable buddy separations that will occur when diving in chocolate milk.

Would really like to see it when you are done....how about youtube?

Hmmmm...perhaps I'll drop in on Wednesday after we finish our class w/ Pat. ;)
