Happy New Year all!!

John and I headed down to Crescent Bay last night for our annual January 1st dive...and what a fabulous night dive it turned out to be! Conditions were mild and viz was at least 20 feet. Moray's in nearly every nook and cranny we looked and a harbor seal providing a ghostly escort for part of the dive. John spotted a little critter that had us scratching our hooded heads...it looked like a miniature eastern lobster, about an inch long, and very blue. Some kind of shrimp we thought. Did not find it in Gotshall. On the return leg, we swam the bottom profile up to the beach spotting small rays, flatties, a shrimp of some type, and a small fish that retreated tail first into the sand as I blinded it with my light (grunnion??).

Could be a Turquoise shrimp. Rick Coleman took these shots at Vet's;

or maybe an urchin shrimp;

As for the fish, many fish, including senoritas and cusk eels hide tail-first in the sand.

Me thinks it must have been an urchin shrimp as it is EXACTY what ours looked liked! A tinly little blue Maine Lobster!

Thanks Phil!! Those are great shots too!!!
