I and a friend of mine are heading down to Laguna Sunday to dive. We are leaving HB at 0730.

Not sure if we will dive Shaw's or another location but am open to suggestions. I have dove Shaw's once and while I enjoyed it, I hated the climb back up the stairs.

I am open to suggestions and if there any experienced divers that would like to join us it would be much appreciated as we are both very new.

Hit the water by 0906 Sunday and the surge seemed to toss you around a bit once at depth. Vis was terrible at less than 5'.

There were reports of a Pacific Angel Shark in the area but I was not lucky enough to run across one. Made some mistakes while gearing up, learned a few lessons and overall had a great time even with the bad vis.

Let me just tell you the first mistake I made which is laughable. So my dive buddy is very green (remember this was only my 6th dive and second non-training dive) and I had to help her get her gear set up and make sure she knew how to use the rental gear she was using. She did most of it herself and I just double checked it for her. So while doing that I get all geared up and we head down the steps towards the beach.

I am sweating profusely at this point and need to get in the water so I don't overheat. We begin to enter the surf zone and made it past that with ease. As we were heading out I could not figure out why I was feeling such a rush of cold water down my back and directly onto my butt crack. As we get out to where we are about to put our fins on I am going over the process of gearing up in my head trying to find a reason why my wetsuit wasn't sealing.

Then it hit me..she was all geared up and I was rushing a bit so she didn't overheat. Well, I put my kit on and cinched it up all without ever zipping up my wetsuit.

I told her between my fits of laughter that we had to go back to shore so I could take my gear off and zip my wetsuit up because I was a moron and forgot to do it prior to the donning of my kit.

As I type this I realize I could have taken my kit off in the water, zipped up and put it back on but at the time the thought didn't cross my mind. Plus with her being so green that may not have been a good idea had I been tossed around and lost hold of gear.

Anyway, there you have it. My first ridiculous scuba mistake. Man was that water a wake-up call :lotsalove:
