Diver dies off Laguna shores - Coastline Pilot
A 67-year-old Yorba Linda man scuba diving with his son off Diver's Cove in Laguna Beach died Sunday afternoon, according to a marine safety official.
Laguna Beach Marine Safety received a 911 call at 3:08 p.m., when there were about 100 people on the beach, marine safety Lt. Scott Diederich said.
Laguna lifeguards helped the adult son pull the man, already in cardiac arrest, onto shore, where they began CPR, he said.
As of Monday afternoon, authorities had not released the man's name pending notification of family, said Orange County Supervising Deputy Coroner Mitchell Sigal.
Laguna Beach firefighters and Newport Beach paramedics assisted, but were not able to revive the man, who was taken to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach, Diederich said.
The two men were about 100 yards offshore in water 15 to 20 feet deep, Diederich said.
"Surf was small, 1 to 3 feet, and there was no surge," he said of the conditions.
"We did everything we could: CPR, defibrillator, the fire department and paramedics came," Diederich added.
