My wife has been bugging me for the last few years to dive this wreck in Lake Winnipausakee. It has never held any interest because there are not any lobsters to catch but for those of us married you know who wins most of those arguments over time.

We dove it this weekend...to be honest it a pretty good dive and for a wreck that's 105 years old it's in great shape. It's in 30 feet of water and a real easy boat dive. You could probably swim to it from shore if you could get shore access.

Visibility on the bottom was about 3 feet but if you stayed off the very silty bottom it was 15 to 20 feet on top of the wreck. I'd recommend early morning or a week day dive because it sits in the middle of a very busy channel.

Thats good to know. I really enjoy lake diving. Is that in NH ? Any info on how it went down.

Yes, it's in Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. It sank in 1895 in bad weather as it was being towed to be scuttled.

Thanks for the info SGT. If its still in goos shape I'm assuming its below a good thermo incline. I'de like to dive it some day.

Take care

We did a dive on it a few years ago as part of an Ice Diving class. We just cut the the hole right above it and went on down.

We are coming up on the best time of year to dive it. As it's close to a marina, after Labor Day is the best time to dive it as the boating traffic is less. I did it as a night dive a few years ago with a buddy who owns a camp on the lake. We got lucky and had a nice clear night with a full moon. As the wreck is only in 30 ft of water, we were looking at all the fish (and an eel) and could look up and see the full moon thru the water. It made for an awesome night.
