Planning a trip to Sea of Cortez this summer for my wife and I. Can't decide between Loreto or La Paz.
Any Advice? When is the best time to go? Where to stay and dive?
Thanks for the input.....

You picked two good locations, both the Sea of Cortez and this forum. There's a wealth of info on this site which you can display by clicking "Search this forum" (at the top of all the thread titles), and then typing a word or phrase such as "La Paz". Here's a jump-start to a thread started by a particularly informative and helpful fellow in La Paz:

The heart of the season runs July-November, according to that thread. If I had a week to spare in the season this year, I would probably jump on the La Paz-based liveaboard, also mentioned in that thread and elsewhere in this forum. Maybe next year.

We've not been to LaPaz but we just returned from a week in Loreto, we've already made plans to return. For diving contact Rafael ("Rafa") at Dolphin Dive Center in Loreto. He was great. We dove four different spots on two of the offshore islands, all were good. We stayed at Posada de las Flores right in Loreto, not cheap but worth what we paid. If you want condo/house accomodations check out SuKasa (Google) or I have a lead on a house in Nopolo (10 miles south) I can forward. SuKasa is across from the water and convenient to everywhere. No beach diving, all done from a panga. According to the locals Loreto is very busy in June/July & August - big dorado fishing season. Much quieter in Sept/Oct & Nov, and the water is much warmer. Enjoy!!

We were just in Loreto in May, last month and the diving was great.
Whale Sharks, Manta Rays, Schools of Yellow tail Tuna,,Fantastic
We dove with Dolphin Dive Center and Rafael the DM was excellent.

I would recommend this trip to anyone
We are going back in July, for 5 days diving,,,he said the mating season for the Manta's happens then,,,so there will be lots of BIG fish in the waters.

We are there, July 29 thru August 3rd
We are staying at La Mision, the package thru Dolphin Dive
Its a great place to stay,,,2 min walk to the Dive shop and you can leave your gear there every day to dry.

Maybe we'll see you there,,,
