With several dozen dives at LJ Shores under my belt (many/most scooter dives, so covering a large region), I'm certainly no expert on this area, but did have a pretty decent sense of the general topography. That is, until the big storms hit earlier this year.
Went out for a night dive this past weekend and basically everything looks different to me. Heading out underwater from Vallecitos St, there's no longer any discernible first wall in the 50-60' range. Instead, there's just a gentle slope from 20-70+', with sand dollars extending to 70' (and beyond; they used to stop around 35'). We kicked north for about 10-15 minutes when "patches" of wall appeared. Nothing like what used to be in this area. Swam around a bit, but Vallecitos Point appears to be gone/buried. No more kelp, no more real wall.
What other changes did the big storms of Jan/Feb bring to LJ Shores? What are the South Walls like now? The (far) North Walls? Any "new" areas worth visiting? What changes have you noticed?
