I just saw a local news update saying that a diver at la jolla shores is unconscious. does anyone know what has happened? is he or she okay? i was just there...

I just heard a bit more. It seems the diver is male, was probably diving alone (spoke to the lifeguard alone, said he was from out of town and asked about dive conditions), and was found by kayakers with no air in his tank...

I really hope he's alive...

It turns out the diver didn't make it

"The victim was then transported to Scripps La Jolla, where he later died."

"The victim's diving equipment was turned over to the police department. At the time the diver was found the air tank was empty"

Thoughts with friends and family.

So sad, so much for solo diving.....

SAN DIEGO -- Authorities Thursday released the name of a 48-year-old
Ventura County man who apparently drowned while scuba diving in the
ocean off La Jolla Shores.

Mark Stephen Conyers of Camarillo was pronounced dead at 6:22 p.m.
Wednesday at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, according to the
San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The man got into distress for unknown reasons offshore from the
popular northern San Diego coastal park near Spindrift Golf Course
about 5 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

After lifeguards used a water scooter to get the victim to shore, they
worked to revive him, then turned him over to an ambulance crew,
department spokesman Maurice Luque said.

Conyers was apparently diving alone, authorities said

Curious if anyone closer to the details knows if he had a single tank? From the article, it sounds like it, but of course, this may be untrue.

thanks,

David

My condolences to the family and friends
