Looking for Tetra 5050 experiences.....

I heard some comments that this Light & Motion metal housing commonly has electrical problems.....

Any comments?

I'm sure you'll get a few to respond here on scubaboard .... But also give Digital Diver a try.... There are several members that are frequently online that use the Tetra housing

I Used the Tetra Housing and got great results, and no Problems. I say "Used" because I just recently upgraded to the Titan D100 housing by Light & Motion.

The only electronic components to the tetra are the Strobe Bulk Heads. You have to Shoot using the A,S, or M modes to get them to fire. (So no point and Shoot mode with the Strobes). everything else is mechanical.

All the photos at this link were taken with the Tetra Housing.

I just got mine and will be testing it this weekend. Will let you know. so far Olympus 5050 surface shots have been really good. The Tetra 5050 that I got came with the Y90 strobe... Watch out for this thread after this weekend. Providing everything goes smoothly...

here we go:

here are the Dutch Springs, PA pics

Tetra is nice and Olympus 5050 is a really cool camera, but I kinda have two complaints about the tetra:

1) the zoom switch has to be in the 'center' position otherwise you won't be able to press the shutter... which was annoying. I accidentally kept on sliding the lever with my index finger while holding the camera.

2) my hand was getting tired holding the camera. I would think that holding the Ikelite camera by that special handle woul dbe far more easier and less tiring. I do like the metal look and a rigit feeling of Tetra though bette rthan Ikelite, which seemed plasticy.

Anyway, I am still experimenting with the strobe controls, etc...

I'd LOVE to have that viz in our local lake! Very cool, especially the helicopter.

BTW...I like version 2a of your logo.

I have the Ikelite housing for my C5050. I have no problems with it at all. While I'm not familiar with the Tetra, I decided on the Ikelite, because of it's depth rating.

Here are some of the pics I took with it:

I'm actually new to underwater photography, so I have a long way to go, and I've just purchased the Ikelite DS-125 substrobe, and did that ever add complexity to the shots.

Currently, I've only taken it out once, but almost every shot I took was way over exposed. I'm looking for techniques to resolve that one. :(

Cheers,
Robin
