Hey Arch! Thanks for the reccomendation, I forgot about Baja. I really like The Carribean Reserves and I would just die to come back to Eluthera, but alas, training for the Olympics is somewhat time consuming. I'll definitly check out the Baja trip, or UDA, although that's not as amazing as Baja, and I've only got this year and next! Yeah, i was a sophmore last year, junior this year. Are you sure about the Texas research? Are they tagging them, maybe that's where I got confused, maybe we're the only ones who have tagged offshore ecotypes, starting in 2003. And we found that they've been diving to 500m at night to feed!!! We never thought they would go that far, our tags were only rated to 500m so we think they went deeper but the tags didn't register, so this year we got tags to 1000m but bad weather kept us off the water. And Archman, any idea about the best Marine Bio colleges, are there any on the east coast, or all of them on the west coast like UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, etc.

Archman, my day has just gotten SO much better, I've been crazy about doing the Baja trip for years, but I just checked the iternerary and I think I can do it! And I've always wanted to get my PADI Master cert, and I could finish the Rescue open water part there in baja instead of at my local quarry! Do you know what specialities they will offer, I'm assuming it will at least be Nav and Deep, with maybe Drift, Night, and Boat? What is the temp there? I've heard the quality of diving differs alot, but you think it will be pretty good in August? And I didn't understand clearly about the 9,10,11 grades, sorry, but do you think I could get in, I wouldn't pick on anyone, haha. You think I'd still have fun if everyone there was a bit younger? Thanks for your time, and get back to me about the Texas dolphins, because I think we have the deepest wild dolphin dive recorded at 500m. There was a Navy dolphin sent down to 600m, but I'm pretty sure we have the deepest recorded wild dolphin dive. Anyway, cheers,
Austin

We had a thread on this last year.

I'm still sticking with University of Washington as a top school. You may also like University of Hawaii. Two of my biology friends are in graduate school there.

archman:
you're going to be dismally disappointed with Seacamp from a science and scuba diving angle.

... come on Arch how can anybody be disappointed with me as their SCUBA instructor :06:

Austin, I can only tell you that most of the kids that go to Seacamp have an excellent time. I know there isn't near the diving that you can get with broadreach. SCUBA II is probably what you would be taking it is a NAUI master diver class, and we get in 8 dives including a night dive. SCUBA II and SCUBA IV would be your other two options at Seacamp, each of these have 7 dives. If you are already rescue certified SCUBA II might be a bit beneath you as there are kids in that class that have onnly their certification dives under their belt. SCUBA IV is great when it goes. It is a research based class last summer my students researched coral diseases on the reef.

Arch is right, I am the one who teaches the SCUBA III all three sessions, and when there is a SCUBA IV I teach that one as well. You have any more questions feel free to PM me. I am heading to the Keys this weekend and have very infrequent e-mail access. If you think you will have questions later on in the summer I can PM you my cell number to answer any questions you have.

As far as East coast Marine bios programs let me throw in U of Deleware, I did some field work at their station on Deleware Bay which was pretty impressive. Duke University and U South Carolina also have good programs. I also have several friends in the program at University of Miami who are pretty happy with it, but I have no first hand knowledge of their program.

BTY Paula, the trip to the west coast was fantastic. Orcas, sea otters, sea lions, seals, wolf eels.... oh and the private 70 ft yacht for just the 2 of us was pretty cool too ;) . I've posted some pics, and I'll send you the full story when I get a chance to type it up.
