Knotting a wreck reel

Hi guys,

I frequently use my Manta wreck reel to tie into wrecks/anchors on boat dives in low vis and high current situations. I also use it as a guide line when entering wrecks. Is it ok to knot up the line (say every 20') so I can see how far I'm going (don't cave divers do this?) or will this lead to my reel fouling more?

Some folks knot spools but other think it's a jam hazard, even there. Knotting a reel (as opposed to a spool) would seem a major hazard.

Try 'em, you'll like 'em. While one might imagine there'd be "hang-up" and "jam" problems with knots, it just isn't so. I knot all my lines every ten feet - never had any knot-associated problem at all.

I use Dive-Rite reels and Home Made spools.
I can't speak with authority on other reels because I started with Dive-Rite and like 'em so I've never messed with any others.
