CuriousMe, do you remember what exact surgery they performed? Maybe you should have voted that you needed surgery to equalize your ears.

Hi Crispos, they removed my adenoids (and yanked my tonsils for good measure). I don't know that affected my ability to clear positively or negatively.....since I was about 2 when I had the surgery.....I didn't count it for diving purposes :D

I am on a ship now, we left Jamaica about 4 hours ago.....don't be to jealous, it rained most of the day :)

However, I did have two fabulous dives the day before in Grand Cayman :crafty:

That's an interesting idea. Does it have any medicinal properties? Or do you use it after disinfecting?

Just one of those things I picked up from a fellow diver one day...I tried it..Works...If You do pool time with students in Chlorine and hit the ocean..many become prone to ear infection..An Instructor gave Me a "Heads up" one day with this tip...and makes things easy on Your Pasta Nights at home..You already have it out anyway.. ;)
 
I use to have clearing issues until an accident injuried one of my ears a few months ago. My ENT doc said from now on to use Affrain (nose spray) 10 minutes before each dive. I haven't had a problem with my eustachain tubes since and it beats taken other meds.

baitedstorm, are you saying your accident helped with clearing?? What gives? Obviously you are still diving. Yeah, I had to use Otrovin nose spray after diving for a few months, after my one and only reverse sinus block.

I guess it does read that way.... lol... no, the accident didn't help, it was the advice from the doctor that did the trick...
 
I never have to pinch my nose and blow to equalise, I just flex the jaw muscles. However I do a lot of open water students, and intro divers. For the benefit of my students, I fake it, and try to look like I am equalising, it seems to remind them to keep doing it.
