My kids will be flying alone for the first time and I was wondering about the policy of unaccompanied minors now. My oldest 15, and my middle child, 13 are flying up to see me on US Airways. Their policy is that children over 15 don't need the escort service, however, under 14 do. Would my 15 year old qualify as my 13 year olds chaperone, or would i need to pay the $75 for the escort program. I already emailed the airline but a computer emailed my back with a link to the unaccompanied minors page and that doesn't answer my question. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure about US Airways but my experience with Northwest was that the chaperone had to be an adult (ie: over 18).

Last resort, call the reservation line, they can tell you. My son was flying AirTran a couple of months ago and at age 13 they said he was to old for an escort. It obviously varies based on the airline.

Guess it does make a difference who with and on what flight. I did a Australia to UK trip solo when i was 10 on BA (this was about 17 years back), i had a stewardess come check on me every few hours, but no chaperone, this was a 36 hour flight back then. Do you feel they need a chaperone or is it required? I feel kids, particularly in pairs are safe enough not to need adult supervision, but of course i lack that parenting experience to mollycoddle the children by wrapping their world in cottonwool that i often see around me, but then again i could cook for myself, do my own laundry and keep a house clean when i was 10 as well ;)

Since my ex works for an airline, my boys have been flying all over for years. Each airline has their own rules.

We mostly use Southwest now, and I've never used US Air. Call the 800 number. They should be able to answer your question instantly. 1800 428-4322
