Obituary Of Diver Karl Anquoe
Native Peoples commemorated Karl from as far away as Australia subsequent to his jorney to the spirit world. Here is his obituary.
"Karl ANQUOE A Beloved Veteran enters into the Spirit World and his Legacy Will Carry On. Karl Anquoe entered the spirit world on [Sunday] June 28th, 2009, while scuba diving at Redondo Beach [Washington State] in the early evening. An enrolled member of the Kiowa Tribe, he was 57 years old. A highly decorated Viet Nam Veteran, he came to the Pacific Northwest while stationed at Fort Lewis about thirty years ago. As a civilian he dedicated his time at the Seattle Indian Health Board for over twenty years as a counselor, outpatient director, and at his most recent position as the Traditional Health Liaison whereby he helped many individuals and Native American communities locally and internationally through his spiritual guidance, mentorship, teaching, and health promotion. As a martial artist with a black belt, he instructed Tae Kwon Do at the Tukwila [Washington State] Community Center because it was important for him to serve the community where he lived. Occasionally he would step in as a radio DJ at KBCS and enjoyed being a trickster or coyote. Karl enjoyed scuba diving and the underwater was a place where he did not hear the sounds of war. He is most remembered by his many relatives and friends for his traditional wisdom, generosity, kindness, humility, and sense of humor. The biggest gift to his family is the unlimited devotion, love, and carrying on of Native American traditions and songs from generations past. He was laid to rest at sunrise on July 2nd, 2009 in Keller, WA at his wife and son's tribal home reservation. Karl is survived by his son, Washie, and his wife, Annette."

Eagle Poem
"To pray you open your whole self
To sky, to earth, to sun, to moon
To one whole voice that is you
And know there is more
That you can't see, can't hear
Can't know except in moments
Steadly growing, and in languages
That aren't always sound but other
Circles of motion.
Like eagle that Sunday morning
Over Salt River. Circled in blue sky
In wind, swept our hearts clean
With sacred wings.
We see you, see ourselves and know
That we must take the utmost care
And kindness in all things.
Breathe in, knowing we are made of
All this, and breathe, knowing
We are truly blessed because we
Were born, and die soon within a
True circle of motion.
Like eagle rounding out the morning
Inside us.
We pray that it will be done
In beauty.
In beauty."

From Your brother, a diver in splendid isolation.
