I'm a Fish!
I'm going to be up in the Kalamazoo area to be spending some time with my ailing Grandfather and family. I know that I'm going to need some time away and underwater to get some relaxation. Does anybody have any hot tips on some local diving in the area besides Lake Michigan? I grew up in the Paw Paw area but I was too small to be diving, etc when I was there.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Gull Lake is a popular place to dive. I did certification dives there a couple years ago but haven't been there in a while. Ross Township Park has the beach area where diving is allowed. Not sure what attractions are underwater. I heard there may be an ice fishing shanty and maybe a snowmobile somewhere(?)

Appreciate it UWDoc. It's been years since I've been up to Gull Lake, heck, I was probably still in diapers then!

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. :(

I'm from Jackson (45min East of Kzoo). We recently dove a section of a local lake called Lime Lake that had been made accessible by a new bike trail. Very cool for a Michigan lake dive. It's an old Lime Quarry and there are lime pillars 2-10ft tall. Saw more fish there than I had in all of the other local lakes combined. Good viz too. PM me if you want directions, or even a buddy some day.

Thanks all for your replies. I've filed all away for future dives as I visit family in SW MI.

As they say, have tank will travel.
