Well, my sons (16 year old twins) and I just returned from Cabo last night and we are now officially Open Water certified. Although I have some work to do to get my breathing and bouyancy perfected.......it is easy for the kids....they don't think too hard.
As for Cabo...what a beautiful and fun place. The people and scenery were outstanding. We stayed at the Riu Santa Fe which is less than two years old....very nice.
We finished up our certification with DM Marco at Scuba Caribe on the grounds of the Riu resort. MARCO IS OUTSTANDING!!! He made certain we cleared every skill and understood the details.....He was most concerned first for our safety as we dive into the future. My son had a little trouble clearing his mask on day one of the training and Marco came back after hours and a long day of diving to help us all get the skill down just right.
Scuba Caribe was nice, although the rental equipment specifically the BCD's and regulators showed some significant wear. We will be getting our own equipment at this point. The boat captain was outstanding. The boat....not really a dive boat....more of a water taxi. However, the captain was very experienced and knew a great deal about the techniques and safety aspects of diving. Hat's off to him for all of his hard work.
The Dives --
Diving at Lands End rock was quite an experience.....mucho fish of all different species. Huge school of Barracuda. Swam a bit with a sea lion. No other big animals there.
Diving at Pelican Rock also very cool.....eels, lobsters and other fish.
Diving at Neptune Finger I saw one of the biggest grouper I have ever seen.... although until recently, most grouper I had seen were on TV or in the market.
Water seems to be warming up a bit....just about 70 degrees. We wore 5 mil suits and we were plenty warm.... had at most two dives per day.
Really enjoyed it and now it is time to plan the next trip!!
