I'm a newbie who just got in his third dive post OW today. We almost didn't get to go, but we made it. I posted about it here. Boring Story #6 was today.

Yeah, this is mostly a non-subtle way to get people to check out my web site, and maybe even tell me it doesn't suck, at least not a lot.

This was a fresh water dive, not a lot to see except crawdads and rocks. But it was better than not diving. Our goal is to make it to Monterey before we get old and die, but so far life has gotten in the way of the trip. I'm sure there are more places to dive around Folsom, but I haven't learned them all yet. I've done a few searches here for Folsom/Sacramento area dive sites, but if anyone wants to suggest any, please do!

Have you ever dove Natomas? I always thought that would be a good spot. Or one of the foothills lakes.

Ken,

Welcome to the world of diving.

The first thing you should do is forget about ever diving Folsom Lake. There's nothing to see and it's a waste of effort. Lake Natomas at Negro Bar, however, is worth the effort. You can get a viz anywhere from five to 15 feet and if you are into exploring and finding things, you can have some good dives there. People toss all kinds of things off the bridges that cross the lake.

You have to take it slow the first few times diving there, and it helps to be with someone who knows the area. You should try to dive the area under the Rainbow Bridge before water is released from the upstream dam. The current can get strong and can ruin a dive.

PM and I can give you more details about diving possibilities at Natoma.

You should switch the banner with the two flags (PADI and something else) and the one with the dolphin. It will make it look nicer. Then resize the picture of those two people (you, possibly?) to be the same size as the banner. Then center the contact information.

Other than that, great site! I like it!

Cheers,

Jess

I wish I was as close to good diving as you. For me, it's 2 or 3 planes each way, but - I go. We do what we have to do. :D

The flags at the top are the "American" dive flag and what I understand is the internationally recognized dive flag, the Alpha flag. Is this not correct? I'm still learning all this stuff.

Dolphin Scuba is where I went for my OW class, and got most of my equipment. It is a little large for the page, though, isn't it? :-) I'll work on that in the next revision.

Thanks!

That is correct. The United States version and the blue alpha flag which is recognized internationally. Both of them become targets for jet-skies and drunken boat slalomers, so be careful.
