Just got to Hotel Cozumel, it's pouring and I'm using my time to figure out a few things.

1. Looking for a local dive op with a flexible schedule i.e. my girlfriend doesn't want to dive every day so I want to book multiple trips with the discount that provides but not necessarily on consecutive days. Gear valet would be amazing. I'll deal with a small crowd but not a hack op.

2. Nightlife...cool local spots for real local food. Not senor frogs.

3. Might rent a Jeep on non diving days or for post dive excursions. What should I be paying and where?

Thanks,
Rich

My current favourites for food are El Pique for tacos and beer. Pancho's Backyard for upscale Mexican. And La Chef for the lobster and bacon sandwich. That's right, lobster.......... bacon........... in a gooey sandwich. :)

Glad you guys tried and liked Pancho's Matt! :)

I agree with you on all of those recs and will add a few of mine:

Food: (see my restaurant list under FAQ's at the top of the Cozumel Forum)
**Kondessa - one of my renewed favorites - Mexican Bistro with a great garden setting

Local night spots:
Love Cafe
Viva Mexico (Fri and Sat nights only - and they have live music)
Money Bar - live band Sat & Sun 6 - 9); HH every day from 5 to 7

"Cheers" type local/ex-pat watering holes:
Bob's - on waterfront across from Mega - same "shopping" center as Rock-n-Java at the south end of the building
No Name Bar - across from Mega in Barracuda Hotel
Wet Wendy's - Av. 5 in the square
Thirsty Cougar - corner of waterfront and Calle 3
Blue Angel has a great HH also (4:30 - 6:30 2x1 drinks and appetizers)

Jeep - Rentadora ISIS with Margarita - Av. 5 between Calle 2 and Calle 4 Nte - about $45USD per day (includes insurance)

If you want to take an excursion around to the "wild side" of the island, I suggest you hire a cab. That way you will be free to imbibe as you wish without the risk of a Mexican DUI. The taxi drivers know the routine well; they will wait outside the little beach bars for as long as you like and won't make you feel rushed. Many of these places feed them for free, and there are always other taxis in the lot doing the same thing.

Thank you all for the recommendations, I will surely put them to use.

Don't you have to be staying there to dive with them?
