You are going to love Roatan.... I visited it on one of my cruises and I liked it so much I want to buy a house there. Visibility on my dive was amazing!!! I dove a reef off Banarama. Wish I had more time to dive tho... I was on a package tour and did a 1 tank dive at our lunch stop.

I'm 6 days away from my trip to Roatan, I will be staying at Fantacy Island Resort. There are 29 of us going, of that 27 are from the lds. I haven't been tropical diving much but I did get my license in the Dominican Republic. When I get back I'll let you know how it went and what the general concensis of the other divers was as they have been to many other places!:D

Max,

Me and the wife head over the 1st week of March... I am quite torn with going wet or dry!!! Would you please let me know once you get back if you wish you had gone dry...? Unless you go dry; if so, please let me know how it went...

Reading where all these folks have gotten cold makes me really want to go dry since I plan to get the 4+ dives a day...

Regards, lee

:coolingoff::doh:I just got back from Roatan where we stayed at Fantacy Island Beach Resort and as promissed here are the paticulars! Upon arrival to the resort we were greated by the friendly staff with cold punches, nice and refreshing. The next thing to do was check in and get a room, we were in 105 right beside the check in. I opened the door and all I could smell was a wet damp mouldy musty smell, the wife and I looked at the swollen snaplock flooring and then each other and thought, Oh, no, what have we gotten our selves into! We put our bags in and headed to meet the others at the bar for a drink were we found out that the domestic beer, juices, pop and rum based drinks were on the all inclusive menu. Drinks like wine, rye and mix, pina coladas, and margaritas would have to pay extra for. The choices of beer are Imperial and salva vida which get old, Corona is and extra cost. The view from the bar and beach was nice. The next day we had our briefing, Robert was helpful and a very nice man. We didn't take the plane ride but others in our group did and they said that they just loved it! The diving the first day was congested but we got though it. The 25 other divers with us dove in 3mm full wet suits to stay protected from jelly fish stings and the reef. My dive buddy and I dove in 2.5mm shorties, we were both fine and get this, the water temp. is an amazing 82' F. The diving is like a lottery or maybe the skill of the DM not sure which, our boat saw a couple of eels, six lion fish, one small turtle and a small octopus. The other boat saw many eels, larger turtles, a hammerhead shark and in general seemed to get better pics than we got, so who knows! One thing for sure is that if you go, the shark dive and the ziplining are an absolute must!!! The facts are, the food was good, the bar closed between 10
;30 and 11:00 and the selection could have been larger. The staff want you to have a good time but, could be friendlier. The diving was great for the small stuff and at the end of the day we had a good time and would probably go back. I forgot to mention that on the second day the line to the cold water tap in our room broke, we had a flood, my wife shut off the cold water shut off tap, we reported it twice and, to this day I believe it is still broken! Don't plan on great showers and spray your bed with bug spray at the start of the week! The monkey's add an interresting sense of humour and the Iguanas are neat! Oh, at approx. 4:30 - 6:30 in the morning your wake up call is a man outside your window with a gas powered insecticide fog machine which sounds like an industrial sized wood chipper running at full capacity! We were rushed back to the airport at 10:00 am where we stayed in the terminal enjoying $5.00 hotdogs untill 4pm and then got flown back to Atlanta on a layover. Then the next day flew on stand by from Atlanta to Philladelphia to Detroit ( thanks Delta ) and amazingly we were back home just a short 40 hours after we began our departure from Fantacy!
P.S. Sorry for all the wine and cheeze but, the facts are the facts and I hope this post helps people with their decisions!:coolingoff::doh:

You must have very quiet wood chippers in your part of the world. 40 hours to get home? That sucks, on the plus side though, everyone loves Canadiens:cool2: well, except for a few U.S. hockey team members. I've stayed at Cocoview a couple times and Fantasy Island once. Our room was in the old section near the boats and it was actually quite nice. Food was good, I really had no complaints. I've seen "bad " and niether cocoview or FI is "bad". Both are very nice resorts for those that want to do a ton of diving.

Only been there once. Diving was so so (I am admitedly a spoiled and jaded diver who has been around the block). Stayed at CocoView. They lost my ex-girlfriend's dive bag after they demanded they would take all dive gear on a separate truck from the airport back to the resort. We saw the bag get loaded into their truck, but it never arrived. She had to dive in my extra swim shorts and T shirts and rented dive gear (they wouldn't even loan her gear for free after they lost hers), as her dive clothes were all in her bag. They would not replace the gear or accept responsibility for losing it. Well, they didn't charge us for my other buddy who went with us, by accident. When we got back, they started calling me in Denver, demanding I pay for the other diver, being real nasty. I firmly refused until they found the lost bag. After much back and forth, they "found" the bag and shipped it back. I think one of their lady DM's took it because the gear and bag were oh so feminine in color scheme, but that's just my opinion. After we got the bag I squared my account with them. But the way they denied responsibility for losing the bag and charged the poor girl for rental gear really turned me off to them. For what it's worth.

Have a friend that stated at Fantasy. She liked it.

There is a resort on Little Cayman that is PERFECT for a couple. Little harder to get to, but it is near Bloody Bay Wall, perhaps the only dive site in the entire Caribbean Basin that could compare to the Blue Corner in Palau, both ranked in the Top 10 Dives in the World. If you want info PM me, and I'll dig out the details. Have fun. Stay safe.

Will in Sarasota

I hope that this was an issue of a dis-honest employee and not that of the resort ownership. I've been observing gear handling for many years and always like see a good operation that has a solid system in place while providing 'connoisseur' service for their divers.
