I agree with you on the LDS over mail order in this stage of your diving. My I suggest Scuba Diving Magazines website http://www.scubadiving.com/regulators. It has an archive of all its articles on regulator reviews and helped me a lot when it came to buying my first reg.

Also take a look at the March 2007 issue of PADIs 'Sport Diver Magazine' which is their "Gear Buyers Issue."
