The wedding will be in May of next year in NYC. My fiance and I are trying to decipher how to afford a wedding and a scuba diving honeymoon. Where does everyone recommend? Both of us are advanced open water divers with PADI. I have 60+ dives and Ben has 110+ dives.

Inexpensive yet beautiful is the goal.

Thanks!
Susan

Well I can recommend beach 8th Street in Far Rackaway Queens, NY. It tis what we local call this site “almost a paradise” . It’s a nice dive and totally free. Anyhow congratulations.

Regards

Since your on the East coast, Florida, Cozumel or the Bahamas would be nice. Congrats!

Congratulations. Marriage is a beautiful thing!

Don't know what your budget is, as everybody's idea of "cheap" is a little different, but I can give you my experiences.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Sandals on Grand Bahama. This is a GREAT honeymoon spot, but not that cheap. With the specials it will probably put you at about $3500-4500 for a week for both of you, but it does include diving at an adults only resort with all food and drinks included. If you drink a lot, it's easy to justify this price on the bar tab and other inclusions.

At the other end of the tropical Caribbean spectrum is Cozumel. My wife and I spent around $2400 there last November including diving, food and drinks and airfare. This was at the semi-upscale Iberostar resort. You can go way cheaper if you're willing to stay in one of the smaller places that maybe aren't beach front. I've seen package deals that are as low as $619 per person at the Casa del Mar (Caradonna Dive Adventures - Dive Travel and Vacations) including food and diving, no airfare. You can also check packages at Blue XTSea Diving. Christi, who runs that outfit (a regular member here), usually has good package deals. I just checked and she must be updating because prices aren't posted, but here's the link: (Cozumel Diving: Blue XT SEA Diving, Cozumel Mexico).

Anyway, congratulations again, and best of luck!

Thanks very much! Cozumel sounds like a strong possibility. It's very exciting trying to plan and afford everything :-)

Can't wait to get wet again.

Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't pick Cozumel for my honeymoon. I would want something a bit more special. My first choice would be Fiji, but since you say you are on a budget and want the Caribbean I would pick one of these:

My first choice would be something like Welcome to CoCo View Resort
where I could get a bungalow over the water. Watch the videos on the website. Seems like it might be romantic enough plus good diving. It is an all-inclusive, too.

Another choice would be Belize, Ambergris Caye or another outer atoll. There are lots of hotels in that area, you could do some land tours of the Mayan ruins or do a jungle tour, etc. Lots of options and price ranges, some all-inclusives.

There are also some places in the Bahamas on the smaller islands that look nice. Stella Maris Resort Long Island Bahamas Hotel villas bungalows comes to mind along with a new place on Andros (here is a link to a recent trip report:http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/bahamas/221730-trip-report-coral-caverns-diver-resort-andros.html ) . Very remote and good diving.

If we were to do Belize (which I really want to do) we want to stay at the Turneffe Island resort. That is definitely not in the budget this time.

We were just in Honduras a few months ago, though it was beautiful not sure I would want to do a repeat visit so soon.

I will look into the Bahamas though, thanks!
