Well, the handles are funky looking, but I have to admit my first thought was that they would make it a lot easier to get the rig out of the car . . .

$400 for the doubled tanks and manifold alone would have been a good price. Your friend was kind to you!

PS: looks like the manifold/ valves are in need of a clean???? Just a thought given the picture

Yeah, the set was being loaned to someone else, who my friend decided had it long enough to either buy it or give it back, he was a little upset (but in stronger words) at its condition, reason why he is giving it a full service - and clean before handing it over to me. Even asked if I wanted the tanks o2 cleaned!

As to why the handles, booties and webbing - I have no idea!

Although I have to say I'm def keeping the handles - the amount of people I see around here picking up twinsets by the manifold :shakehead

Will report back once I have the set in my sweaty palms...hehe

As to keeping the handles, up to you. But seriously look at the bolts....lifting the tanks by the handles has the potential to get the bolts in your thighs. I don't know what type of diving you are planning, but start thinking about other things as well: entanglement

I completely agree on the bolts.

My plan, once I have it, is to strip the whole thing down and rebulid it myself, which I plan to include all your suggestions...

I wouldn't keep those handles in a million years. If you got entangled on them, you'd never get free. And they are solid loops that can't be easily cut. Scary.

And speaking of manifold, that doesn't look liike a 2 o-ring manifold to me. Might give some considertation to that. Though perhaps those kinds of manifolds aren't prevalent in your area.

Maybe this setup of rig is common where you are. I don't know. I am used to looking at doubles that look quite different. No handles, no mesh, double-o-ring manifolds, no boots, different length bolts, moderate lift requirements, etc.

Now, that is a very very good point...

However for the time being as I will be using this gear in a non tech way (no penetration, no overhead) - just getting use to it on normal dives - I'm going to leave them on. But I see you point and completely agree...

Thanks..

As long as you are thinking about these issues, and making decisions based on thought, that's all anyone can ask. Be safe out there man.. and have fun with your new twinset! :)

and why your looking at all of this things have you found your self an instructor yet if so make sure you like they guy and can trust him A would just talk to him about your grear set up. I know i like the DIR set up but thats just me.
