Hi,

this is my first post on scubaboard. I'm more a reader than a writer so we'll see how many more posts wil follow.

As I said, I'm more of a reader and I have been using this board quite a lot as an information source as help in choosing my first regulator. With this post I would like to thank the many contributors to the board for all the information, reviews and opinions that they have made available.

I'm a recreational diver, doing between 25-50 dives a year, so far the past 2,5 year in the Red Sea. Last year I did my first liveaboard and wasn't too happy with the quality of the rental BDC, regulator, octopus and dive lights. So this year I decided to purchase all these items for my liveaboard next month.

On the regulator I narrowed my choice down to the Aqua Lung Legend series, or the Apeks ATX50 or ATX200. A bit overkill seeing my type of diving, but at least future proof.

I just got back from my LDS and he gave my a great deal (or at least I believe so) on the Apeks ATX200 + ATX40 octopus. For this combination he charged me 412 EUR. I compared to diveinn.com which is regulary mentioned here, they charge 582 EUR for this combination. It probably helped that I bought a Sea-Quest Pro QD+ BCD there last month, but also for a good price, 365 EUR (compared to 420 EUR on diveinn.com)

Also on basis of tips on the board here and my LDS, I got a DIN first stage. If I decide to change, I can always order the parts from Apeks to change it to an A-clamp.

So I'm a happy camper, and looking forward to using my new toys on my Southern Red Sea liveaboard next month! And maybe I'm going to try some diving in the Netherlands this summer....

Thanks again for all the information available on this board!

Welcome to the board, Menno. Out of curiosisty, which shop is your LDS?

Phil

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm probably going to take a screw-on DIN to A-clamp adaptor with me anyway. They're only 20 EUR or so, and then you're prepared for all situations. Another plus for DIN, you can get DIN to A-clamp adaptors, but not the other way AFAIK.

My LDS is Moby Dick in Rotterdam.

Cheers,
Menno
