I just finished my rescue class and I have to agree with everyone who said it was the hardest class they had taken and enjoyed the most. Personally, I think rescue, advanced gas planning and deep dive (100ft+) should be mandatory for an Advanced cert, but that's another thread.

Thanks to everyone who posted on SB with their trials and successes. I know I had a sense of what was to come and at least was mentally prepared for it, which didn't hurt. What I wasn't totally prepared for was how physically demanding working underwater is. I think I'm in pretty good shape but may have to rethink that. Trying to raise a panicked 250# diver from the bottom is no picnic. If you ever want to see if you can out-breath your reg (primary, or in most cases secondary), this is the class for you!

So thanks again to all those who went before and shared. I now know even more about what I don't know. :)

Congrats! I too recently completed Rescue and also found it to be demanding but the most rewarding class to date. Pizza! Pizza!
:yelclap:

Cheers,
Lilla

I agree, on all counts. Just finished mine about a month ago! And yes, Pizza! Do you need Pizza?!!

Congrads!

I wish they would make Rescue mandatory! :D

Our instructor put 40lbs of lead in his BC when he went to hide. So on top of having to raise up a good sized buy (likely about 225lbs), we also had the joy of having him COMPLETELY overweighted, and he made sure his drysuit, and BC were completely empty!

One of the things I liked about the class is that it was unpredictable, and there are no perfect solutions. CPR is also good to keep up to date.

Hmmm, there must be a manual for DM's on how to make classes interesting. In the pool he disconnected his inflator hose so his BC wouldn't fill, like in an OOA situation, and his BC when it is working has a hair-trigger pull on the corrugated dump valve. The slightest pull and any air going in instantly went right back out. Lots of fun when you're trying to surface him sans mask (which was firmly lodged around my neck at this point) and he's flailing.

Good Job Mike! I mean it, congratulations. Hey, how come Connie was not the victim?
Now, no practicing on your fellow divers!

You learn all the tricks when they show you the secret DM hand shake. :rofl3:

Congrats. I always tell people that Rescue is the best, and most important class that you can take. It is also the only class that I work where I will wear gloves in the pool. It gets nasty.

Cangrats again.

i finished my rescue course recently too. without doubt its the most hard work/fun i ve yet had in diving. looks like there is a lot of us out there. if the vis was better we could see each other!!!!!

Kakani was there, but luckily () I had Jeff most of the day, except for the panicked diver on the surface. She's just as capable of ripping your mask off as he is :shakehead:. We did get to use her for a surf exit. Easiest thing we did all day, but after almost 2 hours in the water, even that wasn't all that easy.
