Please forgive a really basic question..

My lovely new DIN conversion has the old yoke protective cap retained on a rubber ring around the first stage.

I have now purchased a special DIN cap with screw thread.

What do most DIN users do? Get rid of the retained yoke cover (no thread) or leave it on?

Does the cap get attached to the first stage in a similar way? Just seemed like something that might be an entanglement risk to me, hence the question..

Many thanks to anyone who can enlighten me..

Leave it behind. It's not doing any good coming along on the dive with you.

You need to buy a cap that you can screw on the DIN threads.
A good quality one will have room for a small piece of string that you can secure around the first stage, for example around one of the LP or HP hoses with two half hitches.
Save the complete Yoke set for later if you want to put it back on.

I use both protectors. I use the good threaded metal or delrin protector with an o-ring to make a good seal for long term storage and short term serious protection eg: soaking the reg not under pressure). But I remove that protector while diving and use the other protector while actually on a dive boat/trip. I install it between dive during surface intervals while my tank is being filled or changed out. Just something to temporarily provide a little inlet protection in an often wet environment.

Thanks all.

I was thinking about doing what Mr Awap suggests...but also now pondering about the comment from Mr Interceptor. The new (female) DIN cap has come with the thread on the top, but its not nearly as neat as the original yoke cover...surely its waiting to tangle on something knowing my luck!?
