Just finished my certification and will be off to Hawaii at the end of the month to dive Molokini. Craig Oberlin did my cert and I was totally impressed with his attention to detail and completeness in making sure I was ready.

Hello to everybody and I look forward to diving with you when I get back.

Hey Finatik! Welcome to ScubaBoard! :D As long as you are doing Molokini, you might want to dive the Lanai Cathedrals - insanely cool underwater lava structures on the island of Lanai. I dove with Lahaina Divers while on Maui and I can highly recommend them. Also, a good shore dive on Maui is at Black Rock. Have an awesome trip!!

I already signed up with B & B. I'm going to be a single diver with a wife and kid at the hotel so I'm not sure how I can dive Black Rock. Maybe I can find a buddy and ship the wife and kid off to the Luau or something. LoL. But beleive me I'm going to give it my best shot if at all possible.

I did an intro dive a couple years back on the backside of Lanai. I think the name of the place was Shark Cove. We came up to a rock wall with a ledge/cave and a large white tip shark was just kicking it on the ledge. It was so awesome. That's what got me into getting certified.

On the inro dive....It's amaizing that they didn't tell me all the things that I needed to know. After doing my cert I'm just shocked at all the things they SHOULD have told me. Don't hold your breath and grab your nose and blow when you feel pressure just doesn't cut it.

If I only knew then what I knew now. But that's typically the story of our lives isn't it.

I had the same experience! I did a discover SCUBA dive at Lanai and the instructor was having some problems with another diver. He left me alone at about 40 fsw to hang onto a rock while he took the other diver back up to the surface. I told my open water dive instructor that, and he said that guy should be harpooned! But... it was that experience that made me want to get certified eventually!

Where is Lake Forest...?

Yep!
Congratulations on your certification. :medal:

A few suggestions I do like to offer every new member. First, it's good to keep your Profile with location and Dive Info with number of dives up to date so other members can address any questions appropriately; edit these as possibly needed from your UserCP above or the Quick Links above.

And don't be shy about posting. Click Forums above, tour the long list of choices, and jump in anywhere you're qualified. PM me with any questions, and I'll try to find a pretty good answer.

Welcome to the board. Hope you have a safe and good time. Don't forget to do a trip report when you get back.

Congratulations on your certification. Molokini and a couple of other dives were my first warm water diving experience, and we went with B&B. You will have a great time. The numbers and variety of fish in the crater is just awe-inspiring.

A word of warning, though -- this sport is very, very addictive :)

congrats on the certification and welcome to the wonderful world of never ending purchases :D

Aint that the truth. All I keep hearing is "It's like golf....once you buy the equipment you don't need to buy anymore".

Yeah right.

As soon as I got clubs, I wanted a new driver. Then a new putter. Then a new set because when after I purchased my 1st set and got better, it wasn't "helping my game now". And never ending ball purchases.

I can't wait until I'm so good at diving that I start needing tech setups because my current rig "isn't helping my game now".
