What had the octopus upset enough to turn white?

It just turned white when I swam within a few feet of it. I didn't touch it or anything. I just noticed that in the self-portrait photo, it had turned back to it's reddish colour. Maybe it couldn't see me on the other side of that boulder. With all the lingcod around at Ogden Point, I would be nervous too if I was an octopus.

My wife and I dove there on the 11th, also at low tide. This was the first time either of us had been there. Man, what a chore getting in/out of the water! We ended up taking off her tank and weight and having me push her little 5'1" body up and over each level of the concrete blocks then lifting up her gear. It was more than a little embarrassing for her, especially with all the onlookers around.
Nice site though!
