A week after my last dive I have started getting a pain in my shoulder that I can't track down to any source. I have been under the impression that symptoms of DCS normally present within 48 hours. Can anyone advise whether it could be related ?

For information my last day of diving consisted of 2 29M dives for 30 mins (as recorded by my instructors computer, at a few points of the dive I could have been 1 or 2 meters lower). BTW I will be buying my own computer after this.

states "98% of DCS cases present within 48 hours", I could find no reference for the other 2%...

Unless you think that decreased sensation in your shoulder could have masked the pain, I would not suspect DCS as the cause.

I hope you feel better!!

Let us know what you find out,

Jeff Lane

Howdy Conor:

If a diver develops joint pain that begins a week after the last dive, they should look for some cause other than decompression sickness. About 90-95% of cases of joint pain DCS will show symptoms in the first 6 hours. As rmediver2002 said, about 98% of cases will present in the first 48 hours. There are reports of saturation divers developing DCS on airline flights as long as 4 days after surfacing, but such an event would be extremely unlikely in a recreational diver.

Thanks for the replies. I thought it was unlikely, but thought I should ask on here, just to be sure. I'll give it a few days and see if it passes.

I can now get on with looking forward to my next dive trip ( 14 days and counting)

Thanks again

Conor
