(Haha, I just realized that topic sounds like I'm inviting YOU, the reader, to join us. It should have been "Should I join my family...")

My family is going on a cruise next year. Our first 2 stops are St. Croix and St. Kitts and we want to do a Discover Scuba course in one of those ports. The certified divers would do 1 dive while the beginner did their lesson and practice and then we'd all do a Discover dive together.

My husband and I are certified divers with about 35 dives each. My brother will be newly certified on the cruise with maybe just a few dives after OW by the time we go on the trip. The discover scuba divers are my father and sister. Both are comfortable in the water.

My question is... which island would you rather do a Discover Scuba dive on, both from perspective that you know you'll probably be giving something up when you go to a dive site suitable for beginner divers and also which island would have a better Discover Scuba experience for them. We'd prefer to dive off a boat rather than shore.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Right now I'm thinking we'd dive with St. Croix Ultimate Bluewater Adventure or Dive St. Kitts. I also emailed Prodivers, but they never got back to me. If you have another suggestion, let me know :)

+∞ for St Croix S.C.U.B.A -- I have dove with all of their instructors and seen them handle a lot of discovers. Very fun, safe folks. The walls there let them easily keep the discovers in 40' but let the experienced folks go deeper with a separate guide if they want. They are the first folks I felt comfortable enough with to let my son (16 at the time) go off on a dive without me while I finished up some tec training with Jon.

Can't compare the diving to St Kitts, haven't made it down there yet.

The diving here in St. Croix is indeed awesome!!!! S.C.U.B.A. is a good choice, as is Cane Bay Dive Shop. Both are very good at doing DD with cruise ship passengers.
