Has anyone dove this wreck recently? I see it as an occasional charter with Aquatic Safaris. This is on my short list of dives to do in N.C. How intact is it after recent storms? Penetration potential other than simple swim throughs?

Go to www.aquaticsafaris.com and send them an email or call. They are pretty up to date on wreck conditions. I was recently at the Markham and Hyde and had a great shark and turtle encounter. Might try those as well.

well, there are a few swim throughs

but the ship was torpedoed by the germans during wwII

it is pretty much flat to the bottom now, no real penetration

but it is a realy good dive. viz is usually excellent, with lots of fish

Really, is it that bad? There are several WWII wrecks that were torpedoed that are still relatively intact, at least some section of the ship. That's too bad. I've read Gentile's and Farb's descriptions, but those were written some time ago and several storms ago.

There are several places you can swim in. They are overheads, but there isn't much in them other than silt. It was a tanker, so there wasn't much interesting inside the ship to begin with. The storms over the last 5 years have flattened a lot of the wreck. Still a great place to visit. I haven't been there since last fall.
