Howdy, I'm Jim Chambers (aka Jimbo1946). I already know a lot of you from other forums or meeting you in person. I'm an old guy (born in 1946, one of the first post-war baby boomers). By occupation, I'm a civil engineer, but I'm retired now and just working occasionally part-time.
My wife Deborah and I have been certified since 1987, and we've dived a number of places, including Fiji, Philippines, Bonaire, Bahamas, Provo, and Cozumel. Our favorite place in the Caribbean Sea is Little Cayman, where we love the Southern Cross Club. The diving there is phenomenal.
I'm an avid underwater photographer, and I'm currently using a Nikon D300 in an Aquatica housing. For strobe, I use a housed Nikon SB800 flash. I only shoot macro, using the Nikon 60mm and 105mm lenses.
2008 has been a thrilling year for me. In February I had an underwater photo published in National Geographic magazine, and the December Popular Photography magazine has one of my underwater pictures in the "Your Best Shot" section.
In August I had spinal reconstruction surgery to fuse the four lowest lumbar vertebra, and it will be months before I'll be diving again, but I'm optimistic that I'll be back in the water by next summer.
I'm looking forward to making some new friends on Scubaboard. I've been a member since 2007, but this is the first day that I've gone from "lurker" to poster.
