Hi all

Have just joined Scubaboard and have a quick question - is it possible to use a Poseidon Jetstream as my main reg and a Cycklon as my octopus or vice versa?

Thanks in advance for any help

Sue

Welcome to the board SueK!

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't have a problem doing that. Correct me if I'm wrongbut, if I remember correctly, the Poseidon regs have a slightly higher IP than most regs. I believe it is the same in the Cyklon and Odin models. I have seen other divers doing just that though without any problems. Just to be safe though you may want to call your local Poseidon service tech and ask them. After all this is life support equipment we're dealing with here. Hope that helps:D

Yes you can use the Jetstream/Odin 1st stage and 2nd stage with the cyklon as octupus, but not the other way round as the cyklon has a higher IP.

Hope this help.

The Jetstream uses a 145psi IP & the Cyklon uses about a 175-180psi IP.

The Jetstream will probably freeflow if stuck on a Cyklon 1st stage. Cyklons breathe very well at the 145 psi of the Jetstream 1st stage.

I may have a couple of Jetstrean 2nd stages here, a used w/fresh rebuild & a brand new one. Be happy to swap for the Cyklon.

It's not the first time and it won't be the last. That's probably why I've only seen other divers using the Jetstream first and the Cyklon second as a backup. Just out of curiosity though Bob, do you know why there is such a difference in the IP's of each reg? Thanks for the correct info though. :D

... why there is such a difference in the IP's of each reg?
Got me on that one. The Cyklons came out quite a while ago; first single hose regulator design (1950s) was a Poseidon & it looked like a Cyklon. As is, the 2nd stages use the same parts as the 30 year old Cyklons as first imported into the US. At the time, their performance blew all other regs out of the water, & they were freeze proof to boot. (with the kit)
I'm guessing, but the higher IP was probably intended to provide massive amounts of air. Most their regs give about 3x the volume that anyone could breathe.

Hi again

many thanks for the replies to my query.
Will try them out and see how it goes!

Cheers

Sue:)
