Greetings Scubaops and you have gotten the straight out truth on your question.
Both or very different fins with strengths and weaknesses and they also dive quite differently in some environments.
Can you use either? Sure either will work but for certain kick styles / environments one or the other would be easier to perform the desired kick style.
In short it is easier to determine what type of diving / environment you plan to dive and then TRY THAT FIN! It is my opinion that one should always try before you buy!

I have used both and actually still have Twin Jets what size are you looking for?
I have two or three pairs laying around that I would part with however I would encourage you to try both before committing to either.
When I was pondering this I was primarily diving single tank / wet suit so the Twins were easy to use. I was just starting out and like the modified flutter kick style.
When I moved into dry suit / singles I still was ok but lacked the umph or propulsion I desired to keep up with my buddies.
Then I went to doubles and split fins were no longer viable for DS and doubles.

So I guess my advice is to determine;
What kind of diving do you plan to do?
What gear configuration are you choosing to get there?
What kick style / finning tech. do you need to employ?
Where are your diving goals taking you?

I hope this helps another factor is cost, blades are usually quite a bit more reasonable. However everything is going up these days.
I like to check out the used dive gear at the LDS, I have found a lot of great deals as well as some great vintage stuff.
Good luck.

what do you guys thing is better? i have a set of lightning jet fins and love them. but i have never used the twin jet fin. has any one done a side bye side? thanks for the help

While not part of DIR endorsed equipment, I have used freedive fins on non-penetration Type ocean dives for over 10 years now...the best are C4 Carbon fiber fins, the longer stiffer model (mustang)..but price is around $500....next best freedive fin is by special fins.com , the blue fins....both of these freedive fins are in a speed and efficiency ( ease of kicking/absence of exertion) category far beyond Cressis, Omers, or any other of the big mtg brands for freedive gear.

And cressisub freedive would blow away jet fins or other types of traditional or split fins for propulsive efficiency.

If you really want a fin that can lower your workload/increase swim speed without effort/maintain speed you used to use while drastically decreasing workload, then seriously consider the special fins.com option.

Not good for cave though....while I can frog kick extremely well in them, with a huge glide, the fins are so long that you would sometimes worry about bumping them into ceilings when you are worried about not silting the floor...just too much fin for cave...I have used them for minor wreck penetration, but if I was planning a serious penetration, it would be with traditional jets.

I used to dive the Twin Jets. I gave them up for a pair of "lightening" Jets. I dive often with a few guys that still use Twin Jets. They can not keep up.

Here is my 2 cents:
Twin Jets...quick when doing a bicycle kick style flutter kick, floppy, very little ability to maneuver without your hands, lighter weight, silt easily
Jets...designed for power, very maneuverable, heavy, slow when doing a flutter in comparison, will last forever ;)
