January Trip Needed - on the cheap!

Looking to fly out of the NYC area. Getting married in 5 months so we don't really have any cash to spare. 2 people, both Advanced PADI.

Goal is to DIVE.

Could leave on a Thursday morning and return Sunday night, or leave Wednesday evening and return Sunday night.

We do not care about where we sleep. Someplace with a little privacy and hot water would be nice. A kitchen to cook in, or restaurants nearby would be helpful.

Florida costs due to the need to rent a car.

Looking for specific ideas. Please feel free to PM me as well.

BTW, cheap is less than $1,600 for 2 including airfare, and even that is too much!

Interior cabins on five night cruises out of Florida in January are under $300 each and some with Carnival to Cozumel are $199 each

2 good ideas above. The cruise can be done quite inexpensively but I don't know if it would fit into your days. Amy Slate's has been offering some deals lately. May be able to get you a good one. Would be cheaper to fly to Ft Lauderdale but renting a car won't be cheap. Would need to fly on Wednesday because the fact that you are flying will cut into dive time. May want to drive to Florida and do Ginnie Springs and Blue Grotto. Maybe Crystal River. Can find inexpensive motel.

You can try looking at this site for time share rentals for a great price. I have stayed at great places in Hawaii and the Caribbean for so cheap. Wyhdham and its affiliates sell unused timeshares for cheaper than many hotels in some locations. Since they are timeshares you get a kitchen and sometimes laundry right in the room. Almost always you can get a suite that are pretty nice places. I am not one to stay at a budget hotel most of the time and this allows me to have a nice place for a budget price.

Go to last minute vacations and pick something that is in your destination of choice. I just looked and saw Cocunut Bay Resort in Fort Lauderdale for $329 plus tax from Jan 10-17. lots of choices. Would work out to around $50 per day. Not bad for a place with a kitchen.
