January honeymoon ideas? Help please!

We have two whole weeks in January and would like to spend one of them doing some diving. Here are the criteria:

*husband is relatively new diver so nothing too advanced (no strong currents and no liveaboards yet)
*cost is definitely a factor (was trying for Maldives but it appears bucko bucks and we need to save some dough for the second week somewhere and to pay rent when we get home)
*it's a rare opportunity to go further (have airline miles to spend) so Caribbean seems a little too close to home
*we do want to spend some romantic time relaxing topside (which has discouraged us from Roatan and places full of sandfleas)
*many warm places appear to be in rainy season (which sucks)

No flexibility for us for other months but nothing has sparked our excitement yet. If you have any ideas, we'd be glad to entertain them. Thanks much!

It would help to know what part of the world you reside in and what your total budget is "roughly"

We live in NE USA (DC area) but with two weeks are willing to go anywhere in the world. Budget is about $5000 total (not per person) for BOTH weeks (even though only one needs to be diving). So yes, monetary contraints when talking about diving around the world, but we do have a bunch of mileage which helps out. Some sort of package deal or all inclusive might be the way to go.

You clarification still leaves a lot of unknowns.

Be very specific. How much money, in total, did you want to spend? What you do with your airline miles, only you can say... so please do.

At $5k for 2 pax/2 wks.... If that has to include airfare, you're looking at the Caribbean/Central America. But you said you didn't want that. If you have $5,000 to spend beyond the air tickets, you can get any number of options for $1250 per week per person.

You mention AI- there's not much difference in package price for diver or non diver. If you go ala-carte, your budget is affected greatly because dives can run from $25-$40 each, and then again.... how many did you anticipate doing in that two week period?

Ok, I would have to say Bonaire also. A couple of reasons:

1. We are as far south in the Caribbean as you can get, and the island is NOT "Americanized", so it is not like other "caribbean islands".
2. Diving for beginners is AMAZING, and great for snorkeling also.
3. Great Romantic topside things, horseback riding, mangrove kayaking, hanging out in hammocks, Chillin' at Lac Bay, Dinner on the private dock at Richards, Romantic Sunset Cruises, etc.
4. Though Bonaire does not have "all inclusives" per se, you can get breakfast included in the majority of your packages and most on the water resorts have restaurants. You will however want to experience the amazing culinary cuisine that is available in town and all over the island!

5. There are various different places to stay, Harbour Village, a romantic upscale resort, Divi Flamingo are just a couple on the water. There are various options on and off water, so it would depend on what you want.
