Jamb nut necessary?

There is an o-ring on the inside of the std hose nipple that is what seals the connection to the inlet tube. As for the jam nut - no you do not need it but it does serve a purpose in that it prevents the hose nut from being over tighten on to the inlet tube. I.e. you jam the hose nut connect against the jam nut not the inlet tube. That way when it needs to be removed you have a surface to work with the jam nut and the hose nut. Otherwise you have to use the housing which plastic.
