I am going to Jamaica in August for a wedding... resort offers diving, located in Negril... does anyone have any suggestions or info for diving in Jamaica?

thanks,

JP

Most of the AI Resorts in Negril dive basically the same areas... My wife and I dove out of Couples Swept Away in Negril last summer...

It was very nice, two dive boats, on brand new... All equipment is provided free, including personal equipment. All diving was done with done with AL80s.

Jamaica has a rule that "visitors" are lead by a DM, according to the resort. But the DMs we dove with basically said you tell me what you want to see and we'll go there...

General basics of Jamaica, limited fish, but recovering nicely after years of overfishing, coral reefs are very nice, and recovering as well... Water was very warm, surface temps were 84-86, and at depth <100 were 75-80... below 100 dropped into the low 70s... Viz was 80-100 ft....

We took 3mm suits, and they hung in the closet, as we dove in shorts and rash guards, and night dives in our dive skins to avoid the jellyfish...

In a nutshell, Jamaican diving is akin to diving in a bath tub, led by your hand... nice warm and cozy...

There is a Forum here on SB, Caribbean destinations, with lots of discussions about Jamaica. Do a search there for plenty of answers.

Thanks for the info - any stand out spots that you suggest getting to?
