Bill - Although the article suggest that sinking cities are new news, it’s been known for a long time. Using continuous GPS and radar interferometry, the subsidence rates are fairly well-established. Combining land submergence from groundwater extraction and rising sea-level, many coastal cities will greatly suffer. At this point, mitigation is not possible, so local communities will need to rapidly adapt. We will see an increase of large storm surges along the coastal regions throughout Asia, and other low-lying coastal areas.
