One of my friends grandfather has a JD Preece speargun that was purchased three years ago and never used. I used it this year and know that it works well and shoots without a problem. Would this be a good entry level gun? I am pretty sure that the price would be between 100 and 150$. would this be a good investment for my first speargun?

I have a couple and they are decent guns. They are Australian and go by the name Sea Hornet. You did not mention what size gun it is. I have a short 32 in gun and a four footer. Depending on size and condition the price you mention is probably fair but I have seen used ones go a lot cheaper. Larger guns often go for more. It would help if you could tell us what size gun you think it is. Parts are readily available and I have had not problems with mine.

I am pretty sure it is a 32 inch gun, the gun is in mint condition, it has literally sat in someones basement for 3 years, not even a scratch on it. i was the first person to ever actually shoot it and nobody else has yet. I did some research on Sea Hornet and JD Preece because it was written on the gun and found that, as you said, it is a reliable gun. As far as i know the only thing that needed to be replaced was the bands and i did that. No rust on it whatsoever on the trigger or spear shaft. What do you think?
